1959-1966: Biomorphism

1962

He participates in the major exhibition Peintres et sculpteurs grecs de Paris at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, which results in the creation of the group “Kendra” consisted of Yannis Gaïtis, Michel Vafiadis, Jason Molfessis, Yannis Maltezos, Giorgos Touyas and Gabriella Simossi.

1963

In his solo exhibitions he practices what we could call “performances or happenings”. He uses his body, he paints with his palms and fingers often kneeling on the floor. He works with utter spontaneity, accepting everyone’s wishes in an artistic act that is both playful and creative.

1964

He presents his most recent works at the A gallery in Paris.

He designs and supervises the construction of Jean-Marie Drot’s residence on Ios island. Gabriella Simossi’s sculptures are displayed in the exterior and interior spaces of the house.

1965

A painful year marked by the death of both his parents.

In Rome, he bonds with the gallerist Schneider and meets the art critics Enrico Crispolti and Giuseppe Marchiori.

1966

He exhibits in Brazil, at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro as well as the Relêvo gallery, and at the Vaclava Spaly gallery in Prague.

In Athens he presents the exhibition The Μicrocosm of Yannis Gaïtis and, in Paris, the exhibition Petite cosmogonie pour un homme seul.
